It’s hard to imagine a place more filled with history than the Campania region of southern Italy! The International Quizzing Championships offer quizzers from around the world the chance to challenge themselves, learn from the world’s best and experience numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our hotel is the four-star Marriot Bonvoy Caserta Plaza, in Caserta, to the north of the city of Naples. It has great conference facilities, lovely rooms, a gym, and a huge atrium in the heart of the hotel which makes it feel very spacious.
Caserta Royal Palace and Park
Right on the doorstep is the magnificent Caserta Royal Palace and Park that was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Combining the influences of Versailles, Rome, and Tuscany, the Caserta Royal Palace and Park, was designed according to the wishes of Charles of Bourbon III by Luigi Vanvitelli, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 18th century. Caserta is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, and ahead of its time. Expanding across 11 acres, the garden’s pools, fountains and cascades are aligned through a ‘telescope effect’, extending as far as the eye can see.
Aqueduct Vanvitelli
One UNESCO World Heritage site in our venue location not enough for you? Caserta is also home to the Vanvitelli Aqueduct (aka Caroline Aqueduct), an 18th-century engineering masterpiece built to transport water from springs near the Taburno massif to the Royal Palace of Caserta. Designed by architect Luigi Vanvitelli and commissioned by Charles of Bourbon, the aqueduct features a striking three-tiered arched bridge over the Valle di Maddaloni. This iconic section, inspired by ancient Roman aqueducts, is 529m long and rises to a height of nearly 56 meters, showcasing the grandeur and functionality of Baroque engineering.
